David J. Irvine, Jr.

Although I was born in North Carolina, I spent most of my formative years in Delmar, New York, a small town approximately fifteen miles from Albany.  I graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1980.  After graduating from high school, I returned to the Tarheel State to attend The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  I graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, double majoring in English and Radio, Television and Motion Pictures.  After a year of working in Chapel Hill, my wife, Stephanie, and I began Wake Forest University School of Law in 1985.  We received our law degrees in 1988.  While at Wake Forest, I was a teacher assistant for one of the legal research and writing classes.  I also worked as a research assistant for Professor David Logan.

After passing the North Carolina Bar Exam in July of 1988, I began working with the Windsor, North Carolina firm, Pritchett, Cooke & Burch.  I passed the Virginia Bar Exam in early 1989.  I became a partner with Pritchett, Cooke & Burch in 1992.  On July 1st, 1999, my wife, Stephanie, and I opened Irvine Law Firm, PC in Williamston, North Carolina.

I currently focus my practice on the areas of Family Law, Personal Injury, Construction Law, Collections and Mediation.  I became certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission as a Superior Court Mediator in 2000.  I have been certified by the North Carolina Industrial Commission as a Workers’ Compensation Mediator since 2001.  I became certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission as a Family Financial Mediator in 2007.

For the past five years I have served as Chairman of Williamston Downtown, Inc., a non-profit corporation focusing on downtown revitalization.  I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Historic Hope Foundation, Inc. and I was appointed by Governor Easley to serve on the Martin Community College Board of Trustees in 2006.

I have been involved in music since my childhood.  I have played in music groups of various descriptions over many years.  I recorded my first commercially released album, consisting of all original music, in 2004.  It was my great pleasure to have my law partner and wife as my drummer on several of those songs.  My current musical endeavor is a group known as Root Cellar. In addition to my musical interests, I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking and learning from my children.  Stephanie and I have two children and live close to Williamston.
