Attorney Profiles

Peggy T. Smith
I was born and raised in South Carolina and Georgia and enjoyed an upbringing of many wonderful experiences and the closeness of my parents and grandparents who instilled in me a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility to others.
In May 2000, I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York. During my last semester at Hofstra University, I was privileged to participate in an internship program through the State University System of New York and Hofstra University from which I was selected to serve as an intern in the Office of the Clerk for the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. Following my internship and graduation, I went on to attend law school at Hofstra University School of Law where I received my Juris Doctorate in the spring of 2003.
Prior to my graduation from law school, I spent my last semester as a visiting student at Campbell University School of Law as I had decided to make North Carolina my home. Upon passing the North Carolina State Bar and becoming licensed to practice law in August 2003, I married my husband who is a native of Washington County, North Carolina, and moved to Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina where I practiced until I joined the Irvine Law Firm as a partner on January 1, 2011.
Since becoming licensed to practice law in 2003, I have focused my practice in the area of family law. I handle issues which arise when spouses separate or intend to divorce such as child custody, child support, divorce from bed and board, spousal support, and equitable distribution. I also represent clients for other family law related issues such as pre-marital agreements, the enforcement of orders and family law agreements, and domestic violence. While in many of these cases I am able to assist the client in resolving issues by agreement or through an alternative dispute resolution method such as mediation, I strongly advocate for the client in those instances when litigation becomes necessary.
When I am not practicing law, I enjoy spending time with my family, which includes our beloved pups, Duke and Lulu. We all enjoy spending time on the water and traveling and are always ready for an adventure.
