Attorney Profiles

Stephanie B. Irvine
As a child, I used to go to court to watch my father try cases. He always seemed to enjoy what he was doing and it definitely inspired me. Now, my father, who has since retired from practice, can go to court and watch me try cases.
I was born and raised in eastern North Carolina. After graduating from high school at St. Mary’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1982, I attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I completed a four year course of study in three years and graduated with a B.A. in English in 1985. In May, 1985, I married David Irvine and together we entered Wake Forest University School of Law in the fall of 1985. We received our law degrees in 1988. While at Wake Forest, I actively participated in Moot Court competitions and began litigating cases with Pritchett, Cooke & Burch following my second year of law school.
After law school graduation, I returned to my roots in eastern North Carolina. I began employment with the firm of Pritchett, Cooke & Burch in September, 1988 and became a partner in 1993. I practiced law with my father until his retirement in 1995. On July 1, 1999, David and I branched out on our own and opened Irvine Law Firm, PC in Williamston, North Carolina.
My practice is devoted primarily to Divorce and Family Law, with a concentration in Equitable Distribution cases. I have been Board Certified as a Specialist in Family Law since 1996. I am also certified by the Dispute Resolution Commission as a Family Financial Mediator and enjoy assisting other parties and attorneys to resolve their cases. In addition to family law matters and mediation, I handle foreclosure matters including collection of ad valorem property taxes for Hertford and Martin Counties. I also enjoy working in the area of estate administration and assisting clients with estate planning document preparation.
I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for Martin Enterprises located in Williamston. I have previously served on the Martin Community College Board of Trustees, the Board of Trustees for Historic Hope Foundation, Inc., the Windsor Area Chamber of Commerce (past president), Bertie Regional Hospital, Martin County Chamber of Commerce and Martin County Educational Foundation, Inc. (past chairman).
David and I have two teenage children who always keep us entertained. We also enjoy playing together in a band Root Cellar on the weekends. We try to relax in Asheville and the North Carolina mountains, with our children and dogs, whenever we can.
